Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo got the job done during the Friday afternoon Practice session at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo. The pair had set out to secure direct places in tomorrow's Q2 session and managed to do so by claiming sixth and eighth place in the Practice results.
Rins had struggled to find grip in the FP1 session, which he finished in twelfth position, but as more rubber was being laid on the track throughout the day, the grip levels increased. In the afternoon, the Spaniard gained momentum towards the end of the session, even briefly ranking third in the live timing during his time attack. Ultimately his 1'37.591s, set on lap 20/24, had him place sixth in the Practice results, 0.296s off the fastest time.
Quartararo had wrapped up FP1 in thirteenth position but he made a strong comeback in the final stages of the Practice. The Frenchman had his mind set on getting into Q2, and gave it his all in the final stages. A 1'37.818s posted on lap 20/23, saw him take eighth place in the rankings, 0.523s from first.
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will be back in action tomorrow for the Saturday MotoGP sessions: FP2 will be held from 10:10-10:40 GMT -3, followed by the qualifying sessions from 10:50-11:30 and the 12-lap Sprint that starts at 15:00.
