Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo gave it their all at the Autodromo del Mugello today in the Gran Premio d’Italia, but to little avail. Starting from 10th and 15th place respectively, they crossed the finish line in 15th and 18th place.
Rins had a good start from P10 on the grid and crossed the start-finish straight for the first time in twelfth place. He was keen to get a move on but was unable to fend off Raul Fernandez, Miguel Oliveira, and Marco Bezzecchi over the first 15 laps. The last 8 laps were a rather lonely ride for the Yamaha man. Posting steady lap times of mid-1'47s, he took the chequered flag in 15th place, 23.613s from first.
Quartararo started the Italian GP from P15 and kept it initially but lost a position halfway the opening lap. He overtook Jack Miller on lap 5 and gained a place in the points again until Bezzecchi passed him three laps later. Unable to stay with his Italian rival, El Diablo came under threat from two late charging riders, one of them a resurging Miller. The number-20 rider tried to make his M1 as wide as possible but ultimately had to concede. He finished the Race in 18th position, 30.622s from the winner.
Today's results see Quartararo in joint 12th place in the overall standings with 32 points. Rins is now in joint 20th position with 8 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP keep their 9th place in the team championship with 40 points, and Yamaha hold onto 4th position in the constructor’s championship with 36 points.
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be back in action at the Mugello circuit tomorrow for a one-day IRTA Test.
