The Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team have started their programme at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix today. Wild-card entry Remy Gardner dedicated the two Friday MotoGP sessions to getting familiar with the YZR-M1 at the Silverstone Circuit and gathering as much data as possible to boost the Yamaha M1's development. He finished the Friday in 23rd place.
Silverstone (UK), 2nd August 2024
The Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team had a productive first day of the Monster Energy British Grand Prix. Remy Gardner, who also rode the YZR-M1 during the German GP, was able to build on the work he had done before the MotoGP summer break. For the British GP opening day, his focus was on analysing prototype parts. He wrapped up the Friday afternoon Practice in 23rd place and on the entry list for tomorrow's Q1.

Though Gardner's only objective for this race weekend is to gather as much data as possible for Yamaha, he was keen to try the bike at a different track than the Sachsenring. He clocked a 2'03.047s in Free Practice 1 which put him in 23rd place in the morning results, but he found a big improvement in the afternoon. With an hour of track time during the Practice session, the Australian was able to better his time on his final run to 2'01.312s. It earned him 23rd place in the rankings, 3.401s from the top.

I was struggling today, but I improved a lot from the morning to the afternoon. I improved the bike a little bit, but it's not easy. This morning, I was a bit lost just with the lines at this circuit: it's such a wide track, and it's so fast. I'm not used to the corner speeds of this bike, and I don't know the limits yet of the Michelins. I got my work cut out for me this weekend, but we just need to keep calm and keep chipping away at it, like we did between FP1 and Practice. We are now going to sit down again and go through the data. We will work on the electronics set-up, which is where we're missing out. I was testing some new parts. In the end, this is Yamaha's test team, and I need to do these tests, even though it's a race weekend.
