Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo returned to action at the Autodromo del Mugello today, keen to boost their bikes' overall performance. However, the Mugello MotoGP Official Test was plagued by rain. The teammates ended up in 7th and 14th place respectively in the overall timesheets.
Scarperia (Italy), 3rd June 2024
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team returned to the Autodromo del Mugello, the scene of yesterday's Italian GP, for the one-day Mugello MotoGP Official Test. Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo had various testing items to try, but the weather conditions didn't allow them to tick off their lists. They ended in 7th and 14th place respectively in the overall results.

Rins was keen to spend the available track time of the Mugello Test to further improve the performance of the bike. Given the rain, the Spaniard had to adapt his plans slightly and instead worked on his bike's wet set-up. He completed 16 laps, setting a best time of 1’57.652s on lap 10, to finish in seventh place, 10.035s from the top.

Like the majority of the riders, Quartararo waited for the track conditions to improve and the damp patches to dry before starting his testing programme this morning. However, the weather took a turn for the worse, leaving the Frenchman with no other choice but to amend his to-do list. His fastest time, a 2'02.375s, clocked on lap 11/15, put him in 14th place in the overall test rankings, 14.758s from first.

The teammates will resume their testing efforts in Valencia, Spain, during a private test held from 11-12 June. After that, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will be back in action from 28-30 June for the TT Assen race weekend held in The Netherlands.

Unfortunately, our bad luck with the weather during tests continues. It seems like the rain is following us... It was a shame that today's wet conditions prohibited us from carrying out our original testing plan, but we learned something during this test regardless. We made the most of the situation by working on the electronics control, gathering good information for the future. It's a bit disappointing, but we are lucky in the sense that we have a private test coming up shortly, so there's still another opportunity to get the work done.

It was a big shame that we couldn't ride in dry conditions today because we had new items to test here. Luckily, next week we're going to Valencia, and we are going to test the new items there. We made the most of riding in wet conditions today. We did many laps, trying to understand traction control, reduce spin when exiting corners, and we found some things. So, apart from the rain, it was a positive test.

We had many items to try that in the end we couldn't test here. It's a shame it was wet today – the weather didn't help us – but we have another private test next week. Hopefully, we will have great weather in Valencia.
