Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Move On to San Marino GP

Following the Aragon GP, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team travelled straight to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the first of two rounds held at this track. This weekend's Round 13 of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship is the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.
Misano Adriatico (Italy), 4th September 2024
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team go full steam ahead this week. They are looking forward to this weekend’s Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini in Misano, where they had a private test two weeks ago. They are also gearing up for the MotoGP Official Test there, held on the Monday after the upcoming race event.

Fabio Quartararo enters the beloved Misano circuit as 15th in the overall standings. The track holds a special place in his heart, as he secured the MotoGP World Championship Title here in 2021. The Frenchman enjoys riding his YZR-M1 at this venue, as evidenced by the two second places he scored here in the premier class in 2019 and 2021 (San Marino GP), and he is looking to get positive results again this weekend.

The Misano track was also a successful hunting ground for Álex Rins, in the lower classes. He stood on the podium in Misano three times in total: he won the Moto3 races in 2013 and 2014 and secured second place in Moto2 in 2016. His best MotoGP result came in 2018 when he took fourth. The Spaniard is currently holding 20th place in the championship standings and is hoping to further climb up the rankings this weekend.

The Misano circuit, constructed in 1972, was a regular scene for Italian Grands Prix throughout the 80s and early 90s. The 4.2 km track is ridden clockwise since a radical renovation was done to meet MotoGP's safety regulations in 2007 that put the circuit back on the MotoGP calendar. The upgrade also included a new chicane, resulting in the current layout of six left and ten right corners and giving the track increased race excitement.

After a difficult race weekend in Aragon, we are eager to get to work during the San Marino GP. We had a private test here before the Aragon GP, which will be the starting point this weekend. We got some good information during this test, and let's see how the race weekend data will compare during the first of the two races that we will have in Misano. On top of this, we will also have an extra test day on Monday at this track. We will try to maximise our productivity as much as possible each session. Misano is one of the team's favourite tracks to be at, with an amazing atmosphere, so the team is fully motivated.

After Aragon, we move on to Misano. We tested here not long ago. During the private test, the pace was okay. The thing that didn't go so well is the time attack, so I expect that will be a crucial point. But let's see what we can do this weekend. More bikes on track with us means more rubber on the track. We might be able to benefit from this.

The Aragon Race was a nice boost, but during the weekend in general it was difficult to evaluate new items as we were struggling so much with the low level of grip of the new asphalt. That's why it's good that we have another GP coming up this weekend in Misano, where we had the private test. In Aragon, we were already riding with a different bike configuration compared to the Austrian GP. I hope that this weekend I will be able to notice the difference more. I'm looking forward to it!
