On the fourth day of the 13th Yamaha VR46 Master Camp, the riders were joined by Moto2 rider Jeremy Alcoba at the Circuito di Pomposa, where they showed their prowess on YZF-R3 bikes.
Tavullia (Italy), 11th August 2024
On Day 4 of the 13th-edition Yamaha VR46 Master Camp it was the students' time to shine. They got up extra early for an important training session: as Moto2 rider Jeremy Alcoba had stated a day earlier, he was going to 'push them' to a new level on YZF-R3 bikes at the Circuito di Pomposa.

When the riders arrived at the track mid-morning, they found Alcoba and the VR46 staff preparing their YZF-R3s and Alcoba's YZF-R6. Five of the six Master Camp riders are used to riding YZF-R3 bikes in their respective championships and had no problem adapting to the new circuit. They completed a couple of practice sessions before it was time to put their skills to the test in a Superpole. Sanchez set the fastest time, ahead of Nugroho and Takahashi who finished in second and third place respectively.

Alcoba remarked: "It was a really hot day on Day 4, even hotter than on Day 3, so that was a challenge. But other than that, the R3 session seemed easier for all the guys. They are all used to the R3 bikes, except for one. I switched between riding the R6 and the R3 depending on what I was trying to show them. I had the guys ride in order, like a little train, and I rode behind them to see their riding styles and then in front of them to show them the lines. I enjoyed it a lot, and I think the guys did too!

"I showed them how to take some corners in a higher gear. It's counterintuitive, but sometimes the bike is better with a lower rpm and is easier to ride. So, I saw some improvement, and I am happy.

"I think I pushed them to the limit and inspired them to make another step. We only had two small crashes, but no damage was done, so that is positive. I'm also happy that in the end I was the fastest!"

The R3 session was so good and so positive for me. I tried to improve lap by lap, and little by little I was getting better. I felt so good with the bike, so I want to thank the VR46 Academy staff. I really like the experience of riding at Pomposa. It's quite a technical track. I want to thank all the Master Camp staff and also the other people, like the people at the Pomposa track, who made this possible. Jeremy also taught me a lot, especially when he was riding in front of me. He slides better than I do, so this showed me that the speed in the middle of the corner is of great importance. Later I spoke with him, and he rode behind me for a bit after that to see what I could change. I tried to adapt my riding after his advice, and it went better.

I was looking forward to this session, since I usually ride an R3. Unfortunately, a crash in the first session made my rhythm worse, and I couldn't take first place. But I'm still happy overall. Jeremy told me in detail about the gearing and the best lines. I am very happy with my rapid growth.

I had the feeling that I was quickly at the limit because the bike was a street model, which confused me at first, but I got used to it, and the others helped me find the right pace. Jeremy taught me to shift up a gear, which wasn't natural for me in some corners.

I really enjoyed the R3 session. I crashed in the first free practice, but it was a very small crash, and the rest was great. Thanks to Jeremy, I learned that I was going too much towards the inside of some corners while I should stay more in the middle of the track.

The R3 session was great. First, I needed to experience and take a good look at the circuit. After that, with some help of Jeremy, it was getting easier, and I enjoyed riding the R3 at Pomposa. Jeremy taught us a lot and showed us the racing lines of this circuit.

The R3 session was very good and awesome for me because it is my first time riding the R3 bike. Jeremy Alcoba taught me to be patient in the turns, showed me different racing lines and how to best accelerate on the exit.
