For Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins today’s Gran Premio de Argentina Race was a matter of managing his tyres to secure 12th place. Fabio Quartararo encountered troubles as soon as the pack dove into the first corner of the opening lap. He was nearly taken out by another rider but managed to stay on his YZR-M1. Ever the fighter, he then rode from P19 to P15 to still make it a double scoring Race for the team.
Termas de Río Hondo (Argentina), 16th March 2025
An overall challenging Gran Premio de Argentina weekend ended with both Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP riders inside the points in the Race. Álex Rins had a relatively uneventful ride to take 12th place. Fabio Quartararo demonstrated a skillful save after a rival ran into him going into the first corner of the opening lap. The incident spoiled his race but not his chances to score points: Quartararo still managed to recover from P19 to P15.

Starting from P12, Rins safely negotiated the first corner and stayed in position on the opening lap. He moved up to eleventh early on as a rival ahead of him completed a long-lap penalty, but on lap 11 he lost a place to Luca Marini, putting the Yamaha man back in 12th place. It then became a lonely ride for the Spaniard. He maintained his position to take the chequered flag 21.663s from the winner and scored his first championship points of 2025.

Quartararo started from seventh place, but disaster struck before reaching the first apex when Marco Bezzecchi clipped his M1, causing the Frenchman to find himself at the back of the pack in 19th. He attempted a brave comeback and started to steadily climb back up the order. By lap 18, he was up in 15th and kept pushing to finish in that position, 25.148s from first.

Today's results see Quartararo now in 15th place in the overall standings with 5 points. Rins' efforts move him up to 16th place with 4 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP is now in joint 10th place in the team championship with 9 points, and Yamaha holds 5th position in the constructor championship with 12 points.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be back in action in two weeks' time for the Grand Prix of The Americas, which will be held at the Circuit of The Americas near Austin, Texas, from 28-30 March.

"It was a difficult Argentina GP overall, and this was not the end we had hoped for, especially for Fabio, though our riders did show perseverance. We weren't strong enough this weekend for Álex to be able to fully engage in battle, but he managed his pace enough to maintain 12th place. Fabio was unlucky today. He got clipped at the start of the Race by a rival. Though Fabio fortunately stayed on the bike, it lost him a lot of ground. He was at the back of the pack, and his bike had taken a hit. It was difficult for him to catch up, but he still rode to 15th place and scored a point. Looking back on these first two GPs, starting with the positives, we have been able to improve our qualifying. However, we lost something in terms of tyre degradation and pace, which was not an issue in the past. We have to investigate what caused this, and we look forward to the next GP at COTA to try again."

"Today was tough. It was my decision to race with the soft rear tyre. Yesterday, after the Sprint, all the data pointed towards the medium rear tyre for the Race, but I tried it in this morning’s Warm Up, and the feeling was not good, so I decided to go for the soft. It was actually quite difficult to manage all the race with the soft. I had to be very gentle to manage the tyre life. The front of the M1 is super nice, but there are some other areas we need to work on."

"There's not much to say. The touch between Bezzecchi and me in the first corner was unfortunate. I went wide, I was in last place, and also our pace was not super good all weekend. I could have maybe been a few positions higher, because starting the Race like this, you pretty much keep your position. It was a really tough weekend overall. Let's see if we can do a bit better at the next GP."
