Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo got right back on the pace on the Gran Premio dell'Emilia-Romagna Friday. He ended the afternoon Practice in fifth position, earning a place in Q2. Álex Rins decided to sit out the Practice due to a high fever.
Misano Adriatico (Italy), 20th September 2024
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo returned to action at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli today to start the Gran Premio dell'Emilia-Romagna with vigour in both the FP1 and the Practice. He underlined his solid pace by securing fifth position in the Practice-session time attack, earning himself a place in tomorrow's Q2.

FP1 started with somewhat mixed track conditions, but with the asphalt drying quickly, Quartararo still managed to have a productive session, ending it in ninth place. In the sunny afternoon Practice, the Frenchman was keen to produce a top-10 result again. He pushed even harder in the final minutes and posted a 1'30.886s on lap 23/26 that saw him end in fifth place, 0.600s from first.

Álex Rins completed three laps in the FP1 session this morning. He was coming down with a high fever and decided, together with the team, to sit out the afternoon Practice. The whole team wish him a speedy recovery.

MotoGP will be back in action for FP2, held tomorrow from 10:10 - 10:40 (GMT +2). The qualifying sessions will follow from 10:50 - 11:30, and the 13-lap Sprint will start at 15:00.

Today's top 5 by Fabio is very rewarding for the team. We have been working hard all season and, of course, also at the recent Misano Test. To see the fruits of our labour and a bit of light at the end of the tunnel is a great source of motivation. Fabio is doing a great job, and we are determined to keep this positive momentum going tomorrow in the qualifying and the Sprint. I also want to say that the team is fully behind Álex' choice to sit out the Practice today because of his fever. We hope he will make a speedy recovery and will be able to join us in the garage again tomorrow.

I think fifth was the best position we could fight for today. We did our best, and I did a great lap. I think we can still improve a little bit more, but we did secure a spot in Q2. I was looking to drop into the 1'30s, and it was great to reach that goal today. I think that tomorrow we can make another small step, but after so many days that we've been riding here, the margin is very small. I will give my maximum like I did during the San Marino GP Sprint and Race. I think that we have the pace. The goal for tomorrow is to finish somewhere between P6-P9. Hopefully, we can achieve it.

I was very disappointed that I couldn’t ride this afternoon. Unfortunately, I haven’t been feeling well since yesterday. I had a bit of a fever, but I was hoping it would get better. Instead, my condition worsened today, and I preferred not to take any unnecessary risks. Now I’ll rest, and I hope to feel better tomorrow so I can go back onto the track.
