Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP eSport rider Lorenzo Daretti fought tooth and nail during the 2024 MotoGP eSport Global Series Finale, held today at the Milan Global Week event in Italy. He entered the third and final round with a 3-point gap to second in the overall standings, and 27 points from first. With a maximum of 125 points being awarded at the third and final round (25 points for the Sprint and 50 points for each Race), it was still all to play for. Trastevere73 delivered a hard-fought fifth place in the Sprint at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto, but an unlucky seventh place at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello (Race 5) and another seventh place at the Circuit Of The Americas (Race 6) ended his MotoGP eSport World Championship title hopes. He wrapped up the season in fifth place with an 81-point margin to first.
Milan (Italy), 22nd November 2024
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP eSport rider Lorenzo Daretti was a main contender in the MotoGP eSports Global Series again this year and put on a good show at the finale. But despite his best efforts, luck was not on his side. The Italian took a fifth place in the Sprint (Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto), a seventh place in Race 5 (Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello), and again a seventh place in Race 6 (Circuit Of The Americas). It put him in fifth place in the final standings.

Whether MotoGP eSport enthusiasts watched the live event in Italy at the Milan Games Week venue or online, all could sense the tension. It was a nervous wait, but at around 16:25 local time (GMT +1) the Sprint kicked off.

Decent qualifying efforts would see Daretti start the Sprint from P7, Race 5 from P4, and Race 6 from P3.

Trast73 was unlucky to be involved in an early 3-rider crash in the 4-lap MotoGP eSport Finale Sprint. He rejoined the race dead last, but by the end of the first lap he had climbed back up to seventh place. Trast73 kept his head down till the end. With danielealoè26 crashing out of the lead on the last lap and the Yamaha man also overtaking davideturrisi06, Daretti took fifth, 3.264s from first. It earned him 11 points and he moved down to fourth in the standings, but now with a reduced 24-point gap to first place.

The 8-lap wet Race at Mugello was a real test for Daretti. He started decently and settled into third after the initial tussle. He began his charge on lap 3, overtaking Jack Hammer4658, and on lap 4 he took over the lead from adriaan_16. However, the track was drying rapidly, leading Daretti to make a crucial decision. At the end of lap 4, he opted to switch to slicks while his championship contenders stayed out on wets. He rejoined the race in ninth place with an over 21s gap to eighth. Unfortunately, the gamble didn't pay off. Though he managed to bridge the gap and make up two positions, he finished in seventh, 7.912s from the winner.

After Race 5, Daretti was in fourth place in the standings with a 49-point margin to the championship leader. Winning the title had become almost impossible for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP eRider, so Trastevere73 went all out in the final 8-lap Race at COTA. He had a good start again, this time from third, and soon entered into a hard battle for second place with danielealoè26 and davideturrisi06. The three riders kept swapping positions, but Trast crashed on lap 5, ending his challenge for the podium. He rejoined in eighth position and, ever the professional, still rode to fifth place. However, an uncompleted long lap penalty earned him a post-race 3s penalty that caused the Yamaha man to drop to seventh place in the results, 13.450s from the front.

Trastevere73's efforts in Round 3 saw him finish the championship in fifth place with a 123-point total and an 81-point margin to first.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP eSport Team offer their congratulations to Jack Hammer4658 on securing the 2024 MotoGP eSport World Title today.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP eSport Team also take this moment to thank their Official Sponsors and Partners: Monster Energy, NamedSport, beSharp, Formula Medicine, Alpinestars, and Yamaha Music Global for their continuous support throughout Trastevere73's 2024 title endeavours.

The 2024 MotoGP eSport Global Series is over. Today we lost. Unfortunately, we had bad luck, and I also made some mistakes.

In Jerez, I knew it was difficult. I struggled at the start, and we also had some bad luck. In the end I closed the Sprint in fifth place, so I did recover two places.

In Mugello, the way things ended was a pity, because I was the fastest. I was in third position in the early stages and started to recover. I did two overtakes and was in first place. The win was right there, but I made the wrong call going into the pits while the other guys stayed out. In the end, their choice turned out to be the best strategy for this race, so I arrived in seventh.

In the last Race, in Austin, I wanted to push 100%. The speed was there. The first lap was aggressive. While Jack Hammer4658 started well, we had a great battle with danielealoè26 and davideturrisi06. I was very unlucky, because davideturrisi06 touched my rear tyre on lap 5, and I lost the front. It wasn't a mistake I made; I couldn't do anything about it. I was unlucky also this time. In the end, I managed to recover to fifth but finished seventh after a post-race penalty.

It's unlucky because from the second round on, the speed was there, and I was very fast. But that's MotoGP eSport: there's aways something you can learn. On to bigger and better things next year!
