Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Ready for Mugello Race Weekend

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team have travelled straight from Barcelona, Catalunya, to the flowing hills of Tuscany, Italy. Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins are preparing to take on the Mugello circuit for the Gran Premio d’Italia. This round holds special significance, as it's Yamaha Motor Racing's home GP.
Scarperia (Italy), 29th May 2024
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team have travelled to the Autodromo del Mugello for Round 7 of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship. It’s a race weekend that the Yamaha Motor Racing staff always look forward to, as they consider the Gran Premio d'Italia their home GP.

Fabio Quartararo has great memories of racing at the Mugello circuit with Yamaha. His brilliant win at the Italian GP in 2021 and his strong second place in 2022 underline why he is considered one of the most talented riders in the paddock. The Frenchman tested at the Mugello track about two weeks ago and is hoping that the extra data here can help him climb up from 12th place in the overall rankings.

After his Catalan GP Race was compromised by technical difficulties, Álex Rins is keen for a do-over in Mugello this weekend. The Spaniard has yet to visit the premier class podium in Tuscany, though he came close in 2019, securing fourth place. He did, however, frequent the Italian GP rostrum in the Moto3 class, securing a second and a third place in 2013 and 2014 respectively. This weekend, he aims to score solid points again and move up in the championship standings from his current 21st place.

Mugello is considered one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar, thanks to its mixture of uphill and downhill sections and a variety of fast and slow turns. The 5245-metre-long Tuscan circuit hosted its first MotoGP event back in 1976 and became a permanent fixture in 1991. The Italian GP is famous for its great atmosphere and is said to be a 'must-be-at event' for motorcycle fans.

After Barcelona, we've travelled straight to Mugello. The private test a fortnight ago allowed us to evaluate our new aero package here with positive results. The extra data will come in helpful, and we are very keen to see how those of an actual race weekend will compare. We hope to make this a good outing for our team. Fabio is having positive momentum, which we want to continue. As for Álex: we found a technical issue after the Catalan GP Race which caused him to finish last. The fact that he completed the Race, despite the problem, is a testament to his professionalism and determination. During the Mugello private test, he was quite fast, and if he picks up where he left off this Friday, we think he will be on for a good race weekend.

We had a good Race in Barcelona, so I'm pretty happy. I'm hoping to build onto last weekend. I aim to get into Q2 on the Friday – that is the most important thing: to make a great, great Friday. I think that the new aero parts that we rode with in Montmeló are better. You need a little bit of time to get used to a new aero, and I think the Catalan GP weekend was a great start. So, hopefully we can also see the benefit here in Mugello.

At the private test in Mugello, about two weeks ago, we confirmed the fairing was working a little bit better. At the Montmeló track the fairing was not so important in terms of wheelieing or corner speed, but in Mugello it will be more important, and we know the fairing worked quite well. So, I believe that it will be a good weekend, and hopefully with better grip on track than last week.
